how to plan the best charity golf tournament
Collecting funds for charity is not always an easy task. In order to stimulate more participation, why not plan a charity golf tournament to add a little fun and competition to the cause? With a little planning and forethought, you can have a very successful charity golf tournament. Here are some ideas to make your tournament the best.
First, set the date well in advance. Most public golf courses welcome a tournament format, but bear in mind that you are not the only organization that is planning a tournament. A good rule of thumb is to plan the event six to twelve months in advance if possible. If your event is for an emergency cause, be sure to let the course manager know.
Second, select the venue. If you live in an area where there are several golf courses to choose from, do some calling to see if the course will work with you on the price of green fees. Also, try to select a course that is in line with the skill level of the expected participants.
Third, ADVERTISE! In order for this event to meet its intended purpose, to raise money, there must be a good number of players registered. Spread the word to friends and family, get permission from the golf course to post a flyer, and utilize the wonderful technology we have at our disposal (email, text messages, a simple website, etc.).
Finally, make it fun! Select a simple format that will include golfers of all levels. Four man scrambles and best ball are popular for these type of events. Offer prizes for best score, longest drive, closest to the pin, and others. Since it is a charity event, approach local business owners and inquire if they would be willing to make a donation for the prizes.
